AJA1 - Installing the App (Android)

Role: System Administrator, Device Administrator

Use: Configuring a device for a new tablet with an APK provided by SanteSuite or an MDM service.


Uninstall Previous Installation

Clear App Data

Clearing the Application Data will remove all local database files, cached data, and installed applets on the Device

1️⃣Open Settings

To Clear the App Data, navigate to the Settings application on the Device

2️⃣Go to Settings->Apps

To find the APP for the IIS, go to the Apps section of Settings


  • Open the Application Search

  • Click on Settings

  • In Settings, click on Apps in the left navigation bar


3️⃣Find Old Application

To find the Old Version of the IIS application, search the Application List

  • Search for the Old App

  • Click on the IIS Application.


4️⃣Find Usage Panel and Go to Storage

To get to the App Data settings, go to Usage panel and click the Storage option

  • Find the Usage panel

  • Click the Storage option


5️⃣Clear App Data

To Clear the App Data, find the Clear App Data button at the bottom of the screen and click on it

  • Locate and Click the Clear Data button

  • Click the Delete button

✅App Data Cleared


Uninstall App

Now that the App Data is Cleared, uninstall the Old IIS APK

1️⃣Search for Old Application

Locate the Application of the IIS by searching for the application in the Application Search Menu

2️⃣Delete Old Application

Get to the Application Context Menu and Uninstall the application


  • Close Settings by clicking the Home button in the navigation bar

The navigation bar is located in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen

  • Open the Context Menu for the application

The context menu can be opened by holding your finger on the Application icon for a couple of seconds

  • Open the Application Search View

The Application Search View can be opened by swiping with one finger from the bottom of the screen upwards 👆⬆️

  • Click the Uninstall button

  • Press the Ok button


Install the Application

This section will go through how to install the latest APK on the Android.

1️⃣Locate the APK

This step will locate the file using the Files app

2️⃣Install the APK

This step will actually install the APK onto the Device


  • Open the Files application

  • Go to the folder location where the APK install file was downloaded

  • Click the APK install file

  • Click the Install button

Configure the Device & Join the Realm

Now that the latest IIS APK is installed on the Device, configure the Device to join the Realm

Configuring the Device to join the realm will populate settings for the device so it can communicate with the ICDR or the DCDR

1️⃣Open the Application

Open the IIS application from the application search

The Application Search View can be opened by swiping with one finger from the bottom of the screen upwards 👆⬆️

  • Open the Application Search View

  • Search for the IIS application


2️⃣Wait for the Application to Load

Once opened, the application will begin to Initialize the Application

  • Wait for the application to Initialize

  • Click the Cancel button to avoid restoring from a Backup

  • Let the rest of the initialization complete. ⬇️

Configure Device Name & Environment

Once the Initialization is complete, you should be prompted with a Configure IIS View

1️⃣Configure Device Name

Define the Name for the Device. This will be used by the Realm to identify the device.

2️⃣Configure Environment

Configuring the Environment will tell the application which Realm to connect to


  • Enter a new Name into the Device Name input

  • Select the appropriate Environment option

The Device name should follow a particular naming convention defined by the Facility or Country. ⬇️

The Realm is the ICDR or DCDR that this Device will be connecting and synchronizing with ⬆️

Example Naming Convention Styles

Variables Used in Example Naming Convention

Country_Identifier — This is the short-form for identifiy a Facility.

Example: FJI can be an identifier for Fiji


Facility_Name — something which identifies the Facility

Example: FOL or FullOfLife can be an identifier for Full of Life Health Facility


Purpose/Department — the purpose for the device or the department of the Facility that will be primarily using the Device

Example: BirthingUnit can be an identifier for the Birthing Unit of a Facility


Person_Assigned — this should help identify the tablet to the user, but should not contain PI about the Person

Example: PP can be the initials for the user Patricia Pelican


Device_Name — a unique identifier for the Device

Example: Tablet can be an identifier for a Tablet

3️⃣Joining the Realm

In this step, we will Join the Realm using the Device Name and Environment Option selected

  • Click the Join Realm button


4️⃣Authenticate Joining Realm

  • Enter the Username into the Username input

  • Enter the Password into the Password input

  • Click the Login button

  • Click the Ok button

5️⃣Wait for Assign Facility Form to Load

Once the Configure Settings view displays, wait until the inputs are finished loading relevant data


6️⃣Assigning Facility for Device

In this step, select the Facility to assign the device to.

  • Click on the Assigned Facility input

  • Search for and select valid Facility option


7️⃣Set Facility Subscriptions

This will determine which Facilities to subscribed to and sync data on the Device

  • Add any other Facilities required to the Facilities (Clinics, Hospitals, etc...) input.


8️⃣Select Optimization for Data Compression & Optimization

The Optimization input controls how data will be compressed, and how to optimize data using the IIS

  • Click the Optimization input

  • Search and select an appropriate Optimization option based upon the network connectivity for that Device

Breakdown of Optimizations

Please select an appropriate compression based upon you connectivity and internet connection type

  • 2G, Dial-up, or Satellite Internet Connectivity — Select LZMA

  • 3G, ISDN, or DSL Internet Connectivity — Select BZ2

  • 4G, LTE, or DSL Internet Connectivity — Select GZIP

  • 5G, Broadband, or Wifi Internet Connectivity — Select Deflate

  • LAN — Select None


7️⃣Finish Configuration

Once all settings have been populated and configured, proceed with Finishing the Setup

  • Click on the Finish button

  • Click the Quit button

Device Configured & Joined to the Realm


Sync the Settings with the Realm

This step will get a user to login to begin syncing information from the Realm to the Device

1️⃣Open the Application

Open the IIS application from the application search

  • Open the application Search Panel and Search for the IIS application

  • Click on the IIS Application


2️⃣Wait for Application to Initialize

This step will wait for the Application to load and initialize before prompting for Updates

  • Wait for application Updates to complete. Eventually, the IIS will begin starting/initializing


3️⃣Update Applets

This step will update the Applets on the device with the ones from the Realm

  • Click Ok to begin updating the Applets

After Clicking Ok


4️⃣Login

This step will get a user to login to begin synchronizing subscription data for Facilities to the Device

  • Wait for the Device to sync data on the Device with the information for the Facility on the Realm
