Editing a Place

Editing a Place in the system can be done by following the steps in this guide

Navigate to the Reference Data -> Places view

Click on the View button in the Actions column


Header Panel

The Header panel will display basic information about the Place and allow you to Download an Export, and Change the Visibility of a Place

Name, Classification, and Type

The Name, Classification, and Type of the Place are displayed in the Header panel.

Information
Location

Name

Located in the left of the Header panel (e.g. New City)

Classification

Located in the left coloured box, after the Name (e.g. City or Town)

Type

Located in the right coloured box (e.g. Community)

Status

Status allows the ability to flag a Place as Active, Inactive, Obsolete, Nullify

Flag
Description

Active

The Place is flagged active to be used in the system

Inactive

The Place is flagged inactive. This Place will no longer be used with this status.

Obsolete

The Place is flagged as retired or no longer exists

Nullify

The place is flagged as ignore

✏️Updating Status of a Place

The Status of a Place can be updated at any time

🚧To update the Status of a Place, please follow the steps below:

Open Status Options

Click on the Status input.

This will be the input which displays Active in the example above.

Select a Status

Select a Status option from the Status input

Address

The Address of the place is located in the bottom of the Header Panel


Place Properties Panel

The Place Properties panel displays and manages general attributes about a Place

✏️Editing the Place Properties

To edit the Place Properties, click the Edit button in the panel header.

Properties

The General Properties of a Place are the Classification, Type, and Name

🚧To update the General Properties of the Place, please follow the steps below:

⭐(Optional) Update the Classification

Classification

Classification references the the classification of a place.

🗾This is the division or segment of what this new Place represents (e.g. Country, Nation, County, State, etc...)

  • Click on the Classification input.

  • Search and select a Classification from the option in the dropdown

⭐(Optional) Update the Type

Type

Type is used to represent the sub-classification of a place.

This is used to identify a specialized category for the Classification of the Place (e.g. Community, Island/Division, Village/Settlement Zone/Region, etc.)

  • Click on the Type input

  • Select a Type for the Place

⭐(Optional) Update the Name of the Place

Official Name

Official Name is the display name for a Place record. This is what Users will see.

  • Enter a new Name in the Official Name input.

Save the Changes

  • Click the Save button in the top right-hand corner of the Place Properties panel.


Hierarchy Panel

The Hierarchy panel displays and manages relationships of other Places to this current Place

Place's Parent

The Place's direct parent for this Place in the Place hierarchy. (e.g. a region can be a part of a country)

Interested in the Parent?

You may click to see the Parent's Information.

Place's Children

Children are the adjacent places the fall within this regional place. (e.g. a series of cities can be part of a region)

✏️Managing Hierarchy of a Place

Updating the Parent, and adding Children are ways of managing the Hierarchy of a Place

Edit the Hierarchy

  • Click the Edit button in the panel header

⭐(Optional) Select and Update a New Parent

To select a new Parent:

  • Click on the Parent input, and

  • Search for Place

  • Select a Place option

⭐(Optional) Add a Child Place

To add a new Child Place:

  • Click on the Child input

  • Search for Place

  • Select a Place option

  • Click the Add button

Adding More Children Places

In some cases, there might be many Places within another Place (e.g. multiple cities in one region)

To add more Children, repeat the same steps for ⭐(Optional) Add a Child Place

Save Changes

Click the Save button to save any changes to the Hierarchy of the Place


Service Facilities Panel

The Service Facilities panel allows you to manage and add relationships from Facilities to a Place (or vice-versa). This helps create the hierarchy connection between the Facility and the Place

Open the Associate Facility Window

  • Click the Add button to open the Associate Facility Window

Associate an Existing or New Facility

When Associating a Facility, you may associate an existing facility or associate a new facility.

Associating an Existing Facility is creating a brand new Facility registration and associating that reference from that Facility to the selected Place

Associating a New Facility is creating a brand new Facility registration and associating that reference from that Facility to the selected Place

Select Association

  • Select the Associate an Existing Facility option in the Associate Facility window.

Select Facility

  • Click on the Facility search input.

  • Select a Facility option from the drop down.

  • Click the Add button to add the existing Facility as a Service Facility for this Place


Relationships Panel

The Relationships panel displays entities that relate to the Place. This will also visually reveal hierarchies and relationships.


Relationship Controls

The Relationships panel will allow changing the view mode and printing the current diagram.

View Mode

The View Mode allows changing the type of relationship algorithm
