CJA11 - Backup & Data Recovery

Role: Clinic Manager / Nurse-in-Charge

Use when: Creating or restoring encrypted backups to protect clinic data in case of tablet failure, loss, or reinstallation. Regular backups ensure the clinic can continue operating after technical issues, device damage, or app reinstalls.

Only Clinic Managers / Nurses-in-Charge and System Administrators can access the System β†’ Backups menu. If this option is not visible, contact your site administrator to confirm your user permissions.


🧭 Navigation

  1. Go to System

  2. Select Backups

  3. View or create backups saved on your tablet


πŸ’Ύ Create a Backup

  1. Tap Backup Now

  2. Select where to save:

    • Public β†’ Documents folder (recommended)

    • External β†’ USB or SD card (if connected)

  3. Toggle Encrypt this Backup, enter a passphrase

  4. Tap Backup Now to start

  5. Confirm your backup appears in the list with today’s date

πŸ” Verify the Backup

  1. Open Backup Explorer

  2. Tap the eye icon next to your new backup

  3. Check that:

    • File size is greater than 0 MB

    • Status shows Encrypted: Yes

    • Timestamp matches today

πŸ’‘ Back up weekly, and before updates or device transfers.


♻️ Restore a Backup

If the app is reinstalled or reset:

  1. On your tablet, open Settings β†’ Apps β†’ UNICEF IIS β†’ Storage & Cache β†’ Clear Storage

    This wipes old data before restoring.

  2. Reopen the IIS app β†’ tap Restore from Backup

  3. Choose the .bin file from Documents or USB

  4. Enter the passphrase if prompted

  5. Wait for restoration to finish

  6. Log in and open System β†’ Synchronization to verify:

    • Outbox and patient data restored

    • Realm and facility match correctly

πŸ’‘ The .bin file is your encrypted backup package containing all local data (patients, visits, stock, and settings). Keep it in the Documents folder or on a USB drive.

  1. Confirm all patients, visits, and stock records reappear.

  2. Check Sync Center β†’ Outbox = 0 and Inbox = 0.

  3. Perform a new manual backup after successful recovery.
